In all reverse placing systems below each competitor receives points corresponding to their reverse placing. If there are
13 competitors in the competition, a 1st placer will receive 13 points and a 13th placer will receive 1 point. In
the case of multiple competitors sharing the same result, the points are divided equally among them. For example, if the
2nd, 3rd, and 4th placers share the same result in a competition with 13 competitors, they will each receive (12 + 11
+ 10)/3 = 11 points.
Reverse placing point system, no lift equals zero points (WSM system)
In this variant a no result/no lift in an event will result in 0 points in that event.
Reverse placing point system (Arnold system)
In this variant a no result/no lift in an event will not mean anything more than that it is the worst
result in the
event. Points are still given.
Reverse placing point system, last event double points, no lift equals zero points.
In this variant a no result/no lift in an event will result in 0 points in that event, and in the last
event double
points are given.
Placing point system (opposite of Arnold)
In this variant the competitor will receive points corresponding to their placing in the event. If there are
13 competitors in the competition, a 1st placer will receive 1 point and a 13th placer will receive 13 point. In the
case of multiple competitors sharing the same result, the points are divided equally among them. For example,
if 2 competitors share 7th place, they will get 6.5 point (6 + 7 divided by 2). A no lift or not participating is nothing more than the worst
result.
Placing point system, no lift adds one point (opposite of WSM; Odd Haugen system)
A no lift or not participating will
equal the worst placing plus 1 point. For example, if there are 6 competitors and one or more competitors chooses to not participate or fails a lift,
then those competitors will receive 7 points each. This is the reverse of WSM system, where a failed lift would equal 0 (last place -1 point).
Percentage based system (German system)
German system
The German scoring system is often used in grip competitions and gives points corresponding to the percentage of
achieved results in relation to the best result in each event. The winner of the event, the competitor with the best
result, will get 100 points. The rest will get points corresponding to what they performed in relation to the winner. If
the winner lifted 250kg and competitor B lifted 230kg, competitor B will receive 230/250*100 = 92 points. Events for
fastest time work in the same way, but opposite. The best result is the fastest time (smallest number) and that will be
worth 100 points. All scores are calculate from a single measure in the event, the Primary Measure.
Note that the German system does not work well with many strongman events since it will be based on the Primary Measure
only. For example, in an Atlas Stone medley of 5 stones, Primary Measure is the number of stones loaded and the points
will be based on that only (the time to load the stones, if used as a Secondary Measure is ignored). In Truck Pull,
primary measure is distance, so if all competitors were to pull the truck the entire distance, they would all receive
the same score. Test this scoring system carefully with the events you will run and select measures that will fit and
work.
Did Not Participate (DNP): Competitors who skip one or multiple event for whatever reason are considered to not
have participated in that event and
will receive 0 points independent on the scoring system selected (excluding the placing point systems). Their result
will show as DNP. The remaining competitors will still receive points as if the competitor(s) were in the event, meaning
that if the competition started with 10 competitors and 2 are out due to injury after the first event, the winner in each
remaining event will still receive 10 points.
When using the “Placing point system”, DNP is handled differently. See each scoring system above for more information.
